Serving Monroe, LA

At Blackburn CDJR, we don't let a little river keep us from making friends. We're just as fond of our customers and neighbors across the Mississippi river as we are of our in-state clientele. Monroe, Louisiana is just over an hour from Blackburn CDJR and makes for a great day trip or an interesting town to stop in for those traveling on I-20.

Monroe is one half of the Northeast Louisiana twin cities, the other half being West Monroe on the other side of the Ouachita River. As the eighth largest city in the state, Monroe is comfortable in size. There's a lot to do, yet Monroe still has a small-town feel that's both hospitable and quirky in its own way.

The residents of this area have always been a big-hearted and passionate group. In the early 19th century, the settlers saw the arrival of the steam-powered paddle-wheeler James Monroe as a huge step in making their outpost into an official town. The paddle-wheeler, which has since been painted in a mural at the main branch of Monroe Library, was named after the fifth president of the United States and became the namesake of the town.

Monroe, Louisiana went on to survive multiple wars, to become home to the University of Louisiana at Monroe, and to have several famous and successful residents like Joseph A. Biedenharn, the founder of Delta Air Lines. Today there is plenty to do and see in Monroe, like a trip to the Louisiana Purchase Gardens and Zoo which is home to more than 500 animals. Monroe also has its fair share of parks for outdoor recreation, plus several different museums like the Northeast Louisiana Children's Museum.

If you live on this side of the Mississippi near Blackburn CDJR, we encourage you to make the short trek to Monroe. You're sure to find plenty of kind folks and to enjoy your time in the city.
