Sometimes called the Hub City, Hattiesburg was founded in 1882, and it is now home two colleges, a National Guard training base, and more. With a welcoming community of over 45,000, Hattiesburg has grown to become one of the best places to live in the region.

If you're looking for things to do in the area, there are a number of theaters and galleries in Hattiesburg. This includes the Saenger Theatre, now on the National Register of Historic Places, which has the annual Mississippi Miss Hospitality Competition. The William Carey Center and Dinner Theater is also well liked, while the University of Southern Mississippi Department of Theatre has original productions in the National Theatre Live.


There are several museums in the area worth mentioning. These include the African American Military History Museum, the Mississippi Armed Forces Museum at Camp Shelby, and the Freedom Summer Trails. You can also visit the Hattiesburg Area Historical Society Museum and the De Grummond Children's Literature Museum.

Hattiesburg Zoo

Finally, the Hattiesburg Zoo is always popular among locals as well as visitors. You can see over 80 species of animal wildlife, including leopards, tigers, sloths, and more. The zoo hosts several events for kids and families, making it the perfect destination for those of all ages. Summer camps and education programs are also available.

Hattiesburg is home to a vibrant arts community, especially thanks to the two colleges in the area.
